In July, the Holliston Police Department held the first of two Junior Police Academies it will offer this summer.
The five-day program for kids entering grades 6, 7 and 8 - the July class named themselves the “Radar Rookies” - included demonstrations (drones, handcuffs, self-defense); guest speakers (Massachusetts State Police air wing and several area K9 units); games and team building exercises (relay races and a ropes course); and much more.
Plus popsicles, lots and lots of popsicles, on very hot days.
The class also visited Holliston Youth and Family Services where they talked about peer pressure and coping strategies; and took a tour of the police station and police cruisers.
The week concluded with a pizza party and a graduation ceremony in front of the police station.
A second Junior Police Academy will take place in August.
