Retired Sergeant, US Army Karen Vecchione, was recently recognized by Run To Homebase at Fenway Park.
On July 27, Vecchione, Office & Human Resource Manager at Holliston-based Colantonio, Inc., was honored at Run to Home Base’s celebration for women veterans and service members. Vecchione served for 21 years.
“I have a great deal of respect for this organization based on what they stand for and what they do. I have seen firsthand the effects that the unseen wounds of war have on veterans,” she said.
The married mother of one and grandmother of five, said this cause is a personal one.
“I have a personal connection to the organization and its cause. Both my daughter and I suffered from the unseen wounds of war. I was involved in Operation Desert Storm, and my daughter was involved with Operation Iraqi Freedom,” she said.
Vecchione said it was an honor to be recognized by Run To Homebase because it doesn’t just benefit members of the military. It goes far beyond.
“This organization benefits not only service members, it also benefits the families,” she said. “This organization is dedicated to healing the invisible wounds of war including PTSD for Veterans of all eras, Service Members, Military Families and Families of the Fallen through clinical care and physical wellness support programs.”
